Everything You Need to Know About “Whole Potta Love”

Our succulent-themed cake is called Whole Potta Love (cute, right?). The cake itself is much like our other cakes, able to be customized with different flavors of cake layers and fillings. But here are a few other things that set it apart:

  • Realistic-looking leaves: These fondant succulent leaves look like the real thing!

  • Delicious dirt: Made from Oreo cookie crumbs, this “dirt” is nostalgic in the best possible way.

  • A clever pot design: This sweet cake is shaped and decorated like a pot, completing the overall effect of a potted plant.

Tips for DIY Succulent Cake Ideas

Feeling confident and ready to create your own succulent cake at home? Here are a few tips to help you make it happen:

  1. Pick the right tools (a piping bag is a must!): If you’re going to attempt any kind of succulent cake at home, make sure you’re using the right tools. If you want to pipe your buttercream succulents on the cake, you’ll need good piping bags, a flower nail, and a set of piping tips that includes a leaf tip. You'll also want to pipe stars on your cake to help make the plants look more realistic. If you’re going to try your hand at fondant decorations, you’ll need fondant tools to make sure your decorations look their best.

  2. Focus on colors: Depending on the types of succulents you’re creating, you’ll want to mix up dusty pink, greens, purples, yellows, and other similar color combinations for a more realistic look. Consider making a few different shades of your green color to add more dimension to the design. Combine moss green, juniper green, and other similar shades to get the look you want.

  3. Add soil: We use Oreo crumbs for our soil, but you can also use crushed graham crackers or mix in a little brown sugar to give your soil a little extra oomph.
