How To Taste Wedding Cake During A Global Pandemic

What, like it’s hard?

At ECBG Cake Studio we normally do over 100 cake tastings a year. As the owner and ring leader of ECBG, I conduct a LOT of tastings and talk to a LOT of engaged couples about cake. I absolutely love getting to know the personalities of the couples I meet with and I love learning about their dream wedding cake. They describe to me their vision, they talk about their desires, their likes and dislikes, and we spend a lot of time brainstorming on Pinterest!

There are some couples that come in and have their whole mood board organized and prepared. They’ve taken notes on preferred flavor combinations and already have a topper bought! There are other couples have never thought about a wedding cake before in their lives. Most of the time the bride-to-be is leading the conversation and most of the time their soon to-be spouse smiles and says, “Yes whatever you think!” In which I always respond, “Good answer!”

Since March 10th we have had to restructure our entire business, including the way we do wedding cake tastings. Although I miss the personal and intimate connection I had made with couples in the past, I know this is the safest thing for everyone involved!

Here are some tips for getting started!

1) Do some research

Check out the ECBG website and Instagram page beforehand to make sure we are a good style and vibe fit!

2) Reach out in advance

Even if you’re not positive about your details we can still make it happen! We are able to accommodate a lot of weddings these days because a lot of the wedding cakes are much smaller. If you are getting married next year STILL reach out now as a lot of people from this year are rescheduling to next year.

3) Don’t worry if things change!

We are extremely flexible and accommodating when it comes to postponement. Our policy states a 40% down payment upon booking. After that if you need to make any changes to your wedding cake including size, date, style, or flavor we can make it work!

4) Wedding cake is usually priced by the serving

Even if you only need a cake for 20-30 people, we’ve got your back. We used to have a $500 minimum which everyone always hits, but now EVERYTHING goes and we love it!

5) Have fun with it! Cake is the best part of wedding planning!

It is my personal goal and mission to make sure everyone we are working with during this time feels extremely supported and taken care of. We want to make sure they are enjoying their wedding cake experience as much as possible. We want to provide a safe, easy and enjoyable experience for the couple. We want it to be just as special and just as magical. Although this may not be the wedding planning process they had in mind, we are here to make it as close as possible. We cannot wait to provide tiny cakes for YOUR socially distant wedding!
