St Jane Hotel: Our dream staycation, our dream partnership!

An interview with Chicago's top luxury boutique hotel.

On New Years Eve 2019 Scott and I had the honor of staying at the St. Jane Hotel for a night of relaxation, luxury, and pampering. We indulged in champagne, room service, and an evening in The Tower, which is truly some of Chicago’s most luxurious boutique suites. As described from their website The Tower is, “A soaring, private oasis. Lined with ornate wood paneling and decor with an effusive, contemporary design. A classically appointed master bedroom features a king-sized bed and a bathroom complete with soaking tub and walk-in shower.” I mean…. This is hardly skimming the surface of this dark, dreamy, sexy escape.

The views of the city skyline in The Tower are breathtaking! We spent a good amount of time just watching the movement of the streets from up above.

My favorite design element that shines throughout the whole building is the Art Deco inspired architecture and art. From the St. Jane website, “The Carbide and Carbon Building was originally built as the regional headquarters and showcase for Union Carbide. It was completed in 1929 by the Burnham Brothers, sons of the influential Chicago architect Daniel Burnham. But one glance toward our gold-leaf tower gives a sense that this is no ordinary building. The shape is that of a vintage green champagne bottle, as the Carbide and Carbon’s design was said to have been inspired as a response to Prohibition. That bold, playful spirit continues on in this Art Deco treasure, an official Chicago landmark, the home of St. Jane.” EVERYTHING in the hotel is a glorious piece to enjoy from the lobby to the elevators! Another one of my favorite features is Free Rein café and restaurant.

ECBG is the preferred cake vendor for all of the weddings that take place at St. Jane and it is an honor and a privilege to be involved with such a beautiful and historical organization. We love highlighting the Art Deco influences with gold geometric lines, marbled fondant, or edible bead work.

We loved chatting with the St. Jane team to explore THEIR favorite offerings and amenities. (Interview with Lillie Holman and Colleen Dunn With St. Jane Hotel)

1) What makes St. Jane stand out above the rest of the Chicago hotels?

Since St. Jane is independently owned, the team here is able to express themselves in a way that makes us a creative, unique, and a strong team. We take time personalizing an amazing experience for each and every guest.  We aim to reflect the uniqueness of our art deco designed historic landmark and work to mirror the thoughtfulness of our name sake, Jane Addams. Whether it’s stepping out in the rain to grab a coffee on a morning commute for a guest or hosting a popup event to showcase local brands and artists, every person on the team has a hand in making those elevated experiences – and we all take great pride in doing so!

2) What is the best hidden gem about St. Jane?

The artwork that is featured throughout the hotel is something we love to point out to guests. Whether it’s our commissioned piece by the iconic Chicago artist, Hebru Brantley, the mysterious artwork by Alicia Savage featured in our guest rooms, or whatever art installation we have displayed in our windows on Michigan Ave., we love making St. Jane a place where people can express their imagination and hopefully inspiring others.

3) What do you wish everyone knew about your offerings?

We can customize! From food and beverage to package selections, we are happy to make your day as special as you. Last year we had couples that incorporated family recipes into their wedding, our chef took time to learn their specific needs to create something personal and unique for the reception.

4) What makes a St. Jane wedding magical?

I think our partnerships have made weddings at St. Jane so memorable. We are lucky enough to have strong relationships with some amazing young local vendors here in Chicago. They are just as unique as we are, and they truly add so much to the day. They say the magic is in the details. Whether it’s the always amazing custom cake by ECBG, personalized menus and invitations from Minted, a gorgeous bouquet from Youth and Yarrow or incorporating your own style with a not-so-traditional photo-booth, the attention to detail really makes our venue shine.

5) Which of your amenities is your favorite?

Our concierge team always seems to be one step ahead. Whether it’s prior to your arrival or assisting guests during their stay, they provide amazing insight into the city.  I’m always surprised to find that they have things completed before I even ask the question.
